OUR YEAR IN REVIEW
The highlights
We are incredibly proud of what we’ve accomplished this year on behalf of the members we support. 2024 has been a year of remarkable growth—both in the number of new members and in the overwhelming increase in attendance. The Friendship Circle family is expanding rapidly, and we couldn't have done this without the unwavering support of our members, volunteers, supporters, and friends, all of whom have played a vital role in creating a life-changing community.
Our selfless volunteers have been busier than ever, whether attending events, participating in drop-ins, or delivering care packs. Their dedication is the backbone of our success. Additionally, our one-to-one Buddy Programme continues to thrive and remains a lifeline for many of our members

CHANUKAH CELEBRATIONS

Chanukah was a week filled with joy and togetherness, kicking off with creative art clubs and our annual hoodie designs. Each member received a special Chanukah pack filled with treats to enhance the festivities.
The week’s events included a festive supper and menorah lighting on the first night, followed by a visit to Gan Eden Care Home on night two. We also hosted a karaoke party and a delicious dinner at Noshers, with special visits to non-Jewish care homes to light menorahs and share the holiday spirit.
Other highlights included a massive party with 150 friends, a film night, and a volunteer appreciation party. Our menorah lighting competition received an incredible 125 photos from 75 participants. We capped off this unforgettable week with a final celebration at the Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Training Centre.
SHUL FRIENDSHIP
Our partnerships with Shuls across North and South Manchester continue to flourish. Six Shuls hosted special Friendship Circle Shabbats, each service uniquely showcasing the impact of our work. At Stenecourt Shul, Rabbi Benji Simmons delivered a powerful sermon on inclusion, urging the community to join The Friendship Circle Shabbat hosting programme.

GETTING OUT AND ABOUT

This year, our members experienced unforgettable adventures that allowed them to connect with friends and create lifelong memories. Twenty of our members spent three amazing days touring London, visiting landmarks like the Houses of Parliament, the Changing of the Guard, and the Tower of London.
We also ventured to some of the UK’s most scenic spots, including a cable car ride in the Peak District, a tram ride to the summit of The Great Orme in North Wales, and a boat ride at Trentham Monkey Forest—each trip filled with fun and excitement.
CHALLENGING OURSELVES
Inspiring our community, 200 people came together last year to raise over £60,000 for The Friendship Circle by taking on challenges ranging from muddy obstacle courses to mountain climbs and half marathons. The most inspiring event was our 5K walk, where over 30 members participated, crossing the finish line with smiles and energy.

SCHOOL EXPANSION
We’ve expanded our four-part programme into five schools, promoting disability awareness and fostering inclusivity. During these visits, our members interact with students, sharing their experiences and collaborating on projects. These sessions have been a huge success, breaking down barriers and creating meaningful connections.

FUNDRAISING SUCCESS
We are thrilled to announce that our 36-hour Charity Extra campaign raised an astounding £418,000 (80% of our annual budget), exceeding all expectations. The office became a hub of energy and unity, with our community coming together to support a cause that has touched so many lives. The funds raised will help ensure the continued delivery of essential services, secure the future of The Friendship Circle, and allow us to expand and develop exciting new programmes for our members.
Additionally, we received a £19,740 grant from The National Lottery for our Hobbies4Life Programme, as well as funding from Bury Council for a Self-Defence Course and a monthly Cost of Living Clinic, providing valuable support for our members in managing their finances and improving their mental health and well-being.

THANK YOU!
2024 has been an unforgettable year, and we couldn’t have achieved it without the dedication and generosity of everyone involved. We look forward to another year of growth, connection, and impact, all thanks to your incredible support.
